October 2 Was a Great Day!

October 2, 2020 was a great day for Duncan Fugitt! Not only did Duncan close on his Turning Point home, but he also found out he had been selected as the Teacher of the Year for Edmond North High School. Turning Point Ministries was founded to provide a hand up to homeownership for people like Duncan who work and serve in the Edmond community. The median home price in Edmond can be a barrier to homeownership for people who play vital roles in Edmond like teachers, municipal workers and first responders. We also make homeownership a reality for other modest-income families who need to live in Edmond. As a faith-based organization, our work is guided by the fundamental principle of sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the people we work with in every area of Turning Point. We would love for you to join us in our mission.

A few weeks before Duncan became a homeowner. We celebrated with him and his family at our traditional home dedication event. At this event, the new homeowner and their family join Turning Point staff, board members, future/current homeowners, and other supporters of Turning Point in a home blessing ceremony. Home dedications are one of our favorite events!

Cozy Home Fundraiser to Benefit Turning Point Ministries

Victory Cottage

For a while now, Turning Point Ministries has had a very small parcel of land next to our first neighborhood, Legacy Station. It was too small to build the type of homes we normally do for our clients. The board discussed various ideas for what to do with the land, one of which was to build a Cozy Home and sell it as a fundraiser. The popular term Tiny Home refers to an even smaller home, less than 500 square feet, and the plans we discussed were for something a little bigger based on the size of the lot. Last year, we began to seriously consider this plan and evaluated some floor plan options that might be possible.

About that same time, Caleb McCaleb met one of our board members. Immediately after learning about our mission, he expressed an interest in helping Turning Point somehow. Several months and conversations later, we partnered with McCaleb Homes to build the Cozy Home. McCaleb Homes had the resources to build the home for us and allow Turning Point to stay on mission to build homes for our clients. McCaleb Homes also has enthusiasm and a heart for missions themselves. Nearly every year they take on a project to use their construction talents and resources to help others. We are thrilled to be partnered with them on this project, now referred to as Victory Cottage.  We hope that you will come see us as it will be featured in the Parade of Homes September 19th through the 27th

Wells Fargo Volunteer Day!

We have a Turning Point home currently under construction at 201 N. Walnut in our neighborhood Heritage Village which was funded in part by a grant from Wells Fargo. In addition to financial assistance for the home, our local Wells Fargo personnel will be joining Turning Point volunteers tomorrow, October 1, to work on the home.  All Turning Point volunteers are welcome to join us. Group volulnteer days are a great way that your group can enjoy serving together while offering much-needed support to Turning Point. If your business, church or other organization is interested in scheduling a Volunteer Day, please contact us. Thank you to Wells Fargo and everyone who supports Turning Point through volunteering, financial support or prayer.
