Planning for Homeownership

The decision to purchase a home should be done thoughtfully with careful planning. This statement is especially true for first-time homeowners. There are many factors to consider. Families need to seriously evaluate how much they can responsibly afford to spend as well as the financing options available. Additional considerations are the required maintenance and upkeep for the type of home and yard they choose. What location will meet their family’s needs? Are they willing and able to follow home owners association policies?

Owning a home provides families with stability, security and the ability to increase wealth, but only if it is the right decision. Family’s purchasing a home through Turning Point Ministries go through a Home Buyer Education course and Financial Peace University to help them through this important decision. Our homeowners also contribute significant “sweat-equity” through volunteering in the construction of Turning Point homes. Sometimes through this process, a family will determine that it is not the right time for them to purchase a home and that is ok. Our prayer is that one day it will be.
